Overview

Our client is a purpose-driven nonprofit organisation that delivers residential, vocational, and community-based programmes for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They are currently looking for an outstanding Human Resources Director to take the helm of their HR operations.

The successful candidate will bring exceptional interpersonal abilities, a collaborative mindset, and the skill to manage nuanced organisational dynamics while upholding the highest HR standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion HR strategy and guidance within a round-the-clock operational setting that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Cultivate a workplace culture defined by excellence and accountability across the organisation
  • Act as a trusted counsel to the executive team on all workforce and people matters
  • Spearhead change management projects and organisational growth initiatives
  • Handle employee relations matters with discretion, empathy, and careful judgment
  • Direct the creation, rollout, and communication of HR policies
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to tackle staffing challenges in a competitive hiring landscape
  • Maintain rigorous adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local employment legislation
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders across various programme areas to cultivate strong, productive relationships
  • Formulate and execute HR strategies that reflect the organisation's core values: people, excellence, collaboration, innovation, and integrity
  • Manage the full spectrum of HR functions, encompassing talent acquisition, employee relations, regulatory compliance, performance oversight, compensation, and benefits management

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success as a senior-level HR professional with strategic expertise
  • Proven ability to deliver results and see initiatives through to completion
  • Alignment with organisational values and a people-first leadership philosophy
  • Solid critical thinking capabilities and reliable judgment
  • Background in complex, mission-focused organisations
  • Capacity to excel under pressure in a high-demand, dynamic workplace
  • Comprehensive grasp of organisational influence structures and stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent partnership skills with a history of cultivating productive professional relationships
  • Superior communication abilities with the power to persuade at every level of the organisation
  • Willingness to work predominantly on-site with occasional remote work flexibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the intellectual and developmental disabilities services field
  • History of sustained commitment (5+ years) in prior leadership positions
  • Experience overseeing HR functions in 24/7 operational contexts
  • Prior work with organisations that serve vulnerable communities
  • Professional experience in healthcare, human services, or the nonprofit sector
  • Legal training or J.D. qualification (attorney-level knowledge is particularly valuable)
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR credentials
