Location: Remote with preference to New York, Washington D.C., or Los Angeles.
Estimated 15% travel
What Youll Do:
Under the guidance of Carey & Co.s management team and board, the Sales Director will develop and execute a strategic Go-To-Market Plan to drive at least $3.5M in new revenue within 12 months while building strong client relationships across fundraising, finance, HR, technology, and executive management service areas. This role will lead revenue growth with a high degree of autonomy, leveraging deep expertise in sales strategy, business development, and client engagement. The Sales Director will independently manage core responsibilities, guide strategic initiatives, and navigate complex processes while collaborating with supervisors, advisors, and junior staff as needed. This includes overseeing inbound and outbound sales efforts, as well as event-driven business development. A key aspect of the role is understanding the diverse needs of nonprofit organizations and effectively communicating the value of Carey & Co.s service lines in addressing those needs.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Sales Strategy and Execution (30%)
- Create and implement a Go-To-Market strategy aligned with Carey & Co.s mission and growth objectives
- Work closely with the leadership team to set revenue targets and define key performance indicators
- Build and use monthly data reporting to monitor sales performance and adjust strategies as needed
Business Development and Lead Generation (40%)
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within Carey & Co.s defined ICP
- Develop a robust pipeline of potential clients by leveraging outbound strategies, industry relationships, and market research
- Establish relationships with key decision-makers at target organizations and referral partners; understand their challenges and propose tailored solutions
Partner and Client Relationship Management (20%)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for referral partners and for prospective clients during the sales process
- Develop infrastructure and SOPs for maintaining ongoing relationships with key stakeholders at partner and client organizations to ensure satisfaction and identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless client onboarding
Organizational Stewardship (10%)
- Stay up to date on current events, industry trends, and client and company news
- Partner with marketing, operations, and service delivery teams to develop sales collateral and refine service offerings
- Hire, train, manage, and mentor junior team members
- Participate in regular team meetings
- Tend to general administrative functions (email/slack, timekeeping, expenses, HR)
What Youll Need
Experience & Expertise
- Proven success in business development, particularly in professional services or the nonprofit sector
- Strong understanding of nonprofit challenges, opportunities, and dynamics
- Experience developing and executing sales strategies to meet target quotas
- Track record of building and maintaining long-term client relationships
- Proficiency in HubSpot for reporting, workflow automation, and campaign execution
- Familiarity with tools like ZoomInfo, Clay, Salesloft, Outreach, Marketo, and Canva (not required to know all)
