We are seeking skilled structural welders with experience in fitting, fabrication, and both ship and shop welding. This position is for the 2nd shift only, starting at 3 PM. Candidates must be local and able to pass both stick and flux core weld tests. Experience working in a shop environment is essential, and candidates must have their own tools.

Responsibilities

  • Weld together metal components of products as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions using electric arc-welding equipment.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Complete welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Clean or degrease weld joints or workpieces using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Perform grinding and joint preparation for NDT processes.
  • Perform burning, washing, and edge prepping using hand and automated equipment.
  • Perform flux cored inner shield and dual shield welding along with oxy-acetylene torching, air-arc, weld-wire gas, stick, and pipe flange.
  • Construct or repair metal products by joining parts using a variety of welding methods including electric arc, MIG and TIG welding, or oxy-acetylene welding.
  • Understand and assess Chemist and Competent Persons reports to determine if job sites are safe for personnel and hot work.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job numbers, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes, and respirator when necessary.
  • Understand and act upon instructions and work independently to complete responsibilities.


Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding).
  • Knowledge of welding techniques including oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, and TIG.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and instruments associated with the trade.
  • Ability to comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
  • Physical ability to enter and move through manholes to work in internally confined spaces.
  • Reliability and ability to follow simple instructions.


Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical training is preferred.
  • General computer knowledge is preferred.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must be a steady and reliable worker.

Work Environment

This role requires working in a shop environment during the 2nd shift, starting at 3 PM. All safety requirements, including wearing personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and steel toe boots/shoes, are mandatory. Candidates must be prepared to work independently and effectively with others, ensuring a safe and productive workspace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NA, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
