Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. opened in 1982 and is a privately held contracting company specializing in commercial paving and road construction. The company began with 7 trucks and has grown to a fleet of over 200 tractors, dump trucks, belly dumps and other related equipment. Started and based in Moses Lake, WA the company has grown to include locations in Wenatchee, Benton City, Yakima, Coulee City, Colville WA and Milton-Freewater, OR. Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. does projects throughout Eastern Washington, Northern Oregon and Idaho. Since 2005 Central Washington Asphalt has received the "First Place Quality Award" from the Washington State Department of Transportation 6 times for work completed on WSDOT projects.

Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. is hiring for CDL Truck Drivers for our Coeur D Alene, ID area. This position consists of operating an asphalt distributor by applying specialized emulsions to roadways. The operator is responsible for setting the pace for the paving operation.

Key Duties

  • Responsible for safe operation of distributor truck equipped with tank for application of asphalt emulsions on road surfaces.
  • Monitor flow gauges, tachometer and temperature gauge to ensure uniform distribution of materials.
  • Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi-automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt and emulsion. Set and adjust as necessary for proper distribution of product.
  • Responsible for loading truck and emulsion tank; connects hoses from storage tank to truck and follows correct procedures to ensure proper loading of asphalt liquid.
  • Regulate burner to heat liquid and maintain as necessary for correct operation.
  • Ability to understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order.
  • Must clean excess asphalt out of tanks and from spray bars.
  • Perform daily safety checks of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and inspections of leaks and damage to machine before operation. Complete daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT regulations and company guidelines.
  • Responsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repaired.
  • Keep accurate log of deliveries and completes required paperwork for billing.
  • Assist paving crew with other tasks as needed when not operating the distributor truck.

Position Requirements

  • Must be able to stand & walk over uneven surfaces. Maintaining balance without assistance.
  • Must be able to climb steps up to 24” in height. May be almost vertical.
  • Able to climb to heights above 3’, balance and reach uneven surfaces
  • Able to climb ladders up to 8’
  • Able to stretch and reach at all levels including above head and below knees
  • Able to bend from the waist up to 90 degrees
  • Pull/Lift/Reach objects weighing over 20 lbs.
  • Climb/Kneel in tight spaces. Reach, twist, pull objects.

Job Requirements:

  • Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License
  • Maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Pass company policy drug screening process
  • Perform daily safety inspections on vehicles through visual examination and DOT regulated pre & post trip requirements
  • Must be physically able to complete all functions of position in a timely manner
  • Safely operate all aspects of a tractor trailer delivery vehicle

Maintain operating condition of vehicle. Including but not limited to:

  • Inspecting vehicle
  • Maintain fluid levels
  • Grease vehicle
  • Clean gates & break cans after each delivery to maintain free of asphalt residue
  • Spray down bed of truck/truck & pup before each load

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour

  • Driving: 2 years (Required)
  • Oil Distributor / Tack Truck: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Class A CDL w/Tanker Endorsement (Required)
