Job DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technician to join our cosmetic plastic surgery practice. The ideal candidate will assist the surgeon during operations, ensuring that the surgical environment is safe, sterile, and efficient. The ideal candidate is a team player and assists coworkers in providing excellent care in a safe manner to the patient. This position requires an understanding of infection control and knowledge of sterilization techniques in preparing equipment and supplies for the operating room and recovery room environment. The candidate will have excellent organizational skills to efficiently manage the operating room routine.
Duties
•\tMain duties including but not limited to
1. Maintaining aseptic technique and hygiene at all times.
2. Set up autoclave sterilizer, perform DART testing, and sterilize the packages.
3. Record temperature and humidity in the operating room.
4. Prepare the patient for surgery in the preop area (gown, take vital signs, sign papers, collect urine samples).
5. Select appropriate instrumentation, fluids, and equipment and set up the “back table” in preparation for the surgical procedure.
6. Prepare fluids and medication for the surgical case and label containers and syringes accordingly.
7. Prepare the patient for anesthesia and surgery by positioning and attaching perioperative equipment (grounding pads, warming blankets, etc.) with other operating room team members.
8. Prepare the patient by scrubbing the body area using aseptic technique and solutions.
9. Assist the surgeon with surgical procedure with handling of instruments, retracting, cutting suture, etc. while maintaining adequate supplies during the surgery.
10. Maintain accurate needle, sharps, and sponge count during the surgical procedure.
11. Assist the perioperative nurse, anesthetist, surgeon, and other surgical technicians as needed.
12. Alternate cases with other surgical technicians and circulate (retrieve necessary supplies for surgery) when necessary.
13. Collect specimens or tissue samples and prepare them and paperwork for the laboratory for analysis.
14. Clean and wrap the patient’s treated area immediately postoperatively and assist in transfer of the patient to the gurney.
15. Clean and turnover the operating room in between cases by removing trash, soiled laundry, replacing trash bags, and treating the work areas with antiseptic solutions (terminal clean).
16. Sterile processing: Clean and prepare instruments in packages for sterilization in the autoclave for the operating room or clinic.
17. Assist the PACU nurse in dressing the patient for discharge.
18. Inspect and maintain operating room equipment checking the functionality preop.
19. Maintain adequate inventory of operating room supplies and unbox the supplies and store them in an orderly fashion in the storage room.
20. Anticipate and order supplies for the preop area, operating room, PACU, and clinic.
21. Order gas cylinders (oxygen and medical air) from the supply house.
22. Collect, bag, and store biohazardous tissue or materials for disposal.
23. Collect soiled linen for pickup by the laundry service.
24. Send biohazardous materials containers to the processing center.
25. Clean and process medical devices (e.g. implants) for return to the manufacture.
26. Maintain and order stock for the operating room and clinic and restock the appropriate areas.
27. Order medical devices for future cases and returning excess inventory to the manufacturer.
28. Assist in the clinic as needed.
Qualifications
•\tCompletion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is preferred.
•\tCertified medical assistants with operating room experience may apply.
•\tExperience in an operating room (OR) or sterile procedural setting is essential.
•\tKnowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and infection control practices.
•\tProficient in data collection and analysis skills related to surgical procedures.
•\tBasic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
•\tStrong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
