1) Purpose of Role
Support civil crews by moving materials, tools, and small equipment, assisting on basic tasks under direction, and learning the steps of the work. Maintain safe, clean work areas and develop foundational civil skills.
2) Scope & Decision Rights
Handle materials, maintain site housekeeping, stage tools/equipment, and assist skilled trades as directed.
3) Essential Duties and Standards
Owns:
Material, tool, and small equipment movement to keep work fronts supplied; maintain clean/organized workstations.
Assisting with basic tasks as directed (e.g., staging forms/rebar, site cleanup, simple tool use).
Following instructions from experienced coworkers; asking clarifying questions to learn the workflow.
Participating in JSAs; following trenching/traffic-control directions; using PPE correctly.
Providing inputs (photos/notes) to foreman for daily documentation in Procore as directed.
Supports:
Foreman and skilled trades with staging, housekeeping, and simple measurements/layout assistance.
Survey/layout by protecting stakes and reporting disturbances or discrepancies.
Safety by following spotter/hand signals, housekeeping standards, and erosion-control practices.
Recommends/Prepares:
Requests for materials/tools to maintain workflow and reduce delays.
Simple improvements to site organization and cleanup to minimize rework.
Questions on drawings/marks to ensure correct task setup before work begins.
Escalates:
Unsafe conditions, damaged tools/equipment, or unclear instructions.
Stake/measurement conflicts, grade hazards, or trench stability concerns.
Traffic conflicts or access obstructions impacting safe material movement.
4) Critical Competencies (must demonstrate)
Construction domain: Housekeeping and site organization; material handling; basic hand/power tool use; JSA participation; trenching and traffic control awareness; erosion control; basic measurement/layout; soil compaction awareness; Procore exposure.
Information governance: Provide inputs to foreman for daily documentation; follow communicated drawing/spec changes.
Productivity tools: Mobile field apps; radios/hand signals; basic rigging for small items under supervision.
Mindset: Communication; adaptability; detail oriented; time management; problem solving; collaboration; willingness to learn.
5) Qualifications
012 months construction experience or strong willingness to learn civil work under supervision.
Ability to safely move materials, tools, and small equipment; maintain clean, organized work areas.
Follows directions, asks questions, and learns the steps of the task and workflow.
Understands basic PPE, housekeeping, and awareness of trenching, traffic control, and erosion practices.
OSHA 10, First Aid; Flagger certification preferred.
Valid drivers license.
6) Performance Measure Buckets
Safety: PPE use; JSA participation; safe material movement; housekeeping standards.
Quality: care in handling materials/tools; stake/layout protection; minimal rework from cleanliness errors.
Productivity: timely staging and cleanup; responsiveness; minimal idle time for crews due to material flow.
Documentation & teamwork: helpful Procore inputs via foreman; communication; reliability and attendance.
