A full-time Educational Assistant / Paraprofessional position is available within a K-12 school setting in Espanola, NM, for the contract period from August 5, 2025, to May 29, 2026. This role supports students with a range of severe disabilities, including behavioral, functional, and adaptive needs, primarily in inclusion classrooms and resource/learning centers. The current focus is on students at the high school and elementary levels, with an emphasis on managing behavioral challenges and providing individualized support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering instruction and managing classroom activities.
- Support students with severe disabilities, including those exhibiting behavior needs or challenges.
- Implement behavioral strategies and adapt learning materials to meet student needs.
- Facilitate student engagement and motivation through personalized approaches.
- Help students with foundational skills such as letter recognition and sound identification.
- Employ de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral incidents during instruction.
- Participate in additional training opportunities, such as CPI or Braille, to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid New Mexico drivers license.
- Possession or ability to obtain a mandated Educational Assistant license and/or Substitute Teacher license (candidates may begin while the licensing process is underway).
- High school diploma required.
- Experience working with children with disabilities and behavioral challenges.
- Previous classroom experience preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus but not mandatory.
