About the Role:
The Dispatcher plays a critical role in coordinating and managing the efficient movement of vehicles and goods within the fleet to meet customer demands and regulatory requirements. This position ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations while maintaining seamless communication between drivers, management, and clients. The Dispatcher is responsible for monitoring fleet maintenance schedules and addressing any issues promptly to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. Working in a fast-paced environment, the Dispatcher must prioritize tasks effectively and respond quickly to changing conditions to maintain smooth logistics operations. Ultimately, this role is essential for optimizing fleet utilization, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering exceptional service to customers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills, including answering phones and coordinating with multiple agencies.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Basic computer proficiency with experience using logistics management software or similar tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with fleet maintenance coordination and peripheral vision skills to monitor multiple activities simultaneously..
- Certification or training related to transportation, logistics, or fleet management.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations and make quick decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily dispatch operations by assigning routes and schedules to drivers based on delivery priorities and fleet availability.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with State regulations and company policies to maintain safety and legal standards.
- Maintain constant communication with drivers to provide support, updates, and resolve any issues that arise during transit.
- Manage fleet maintenance schedules by coordinating with maintenance teams to ensure vehicles are serviced and operational.
- Answer incoming calls from drivers, clients, and internal teams to address inquiries, provide information, and facilitate problem resolution.
- Track shipments and update logistics management systems to provide accurate delivery status and optimize route planning.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or unexpected changes in schedules, adjusting dispatch plans to minimize disruptions.
Skills:
The Dispatcher utilizes dispatching skills daily to assign routes and manage schedules efficiently, ensuring timely deliveries. Knowledge regulations is critical to maintain compliance and avoid legal issues, which is integrated into all operational decisions. Peripheral vision and multitasking abilities enable the Dispatcher to monitor multiple communication channels and fleet activities simultaneously, ensuring nothing is overlooked. Fleet management and maintenance coordination skills are applied to keep vehicles in optimal condition, reducing downtime and improving reliability.
