The Humane Society for Greater Savannah is looking for one Playgroup and Enrichment Technician at our Adoption Center. This is a full-time position with PTO, group health, dental, and vision insurance, 401k, and an employee pet benefits program.
This is a full-time position (40 hours) with a 5-day work week, Tuesday through Saturday. HSGS is a private, non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organization in Savannah, GA. Each year, HSGS finds homes for 2,500 animals and performs 9,000 spay/neuter surgeries at our clinic, Pet Fix Savannah.
Job Summary:
Do you love dogs and want hands on experience in animal welfare? HSGS is looking for a Playgroup and Enrichment Technician to join our Behavior Team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with animals and eager to learn more about canine behavior, training, and improving the quality of life for shelter pets.
The Playgroup and Enrichment Technician (PET) along with the Behavior and Enrichment Manager (BEM) will promote positive mental and physical health for the animals in HSGS’s care by following the enrichment program designed by the BEM. The PET is responsible for providing species-appropriate activities and opportunities with regular supervision of the individual animal’s needs.
What you'll do:
- Lead structured daily dog playgroups
- Provide enrichment activities for shelter animals
- Observe and document animal behavior
- Assist with behavior and training plans
- Support adopters by discussing animal behavior and personality
- Prepare, clean, and organize enrichment supplies
- Work closely with volunteers and multiple shelter departments
- Other duties as assigned
Working Relationships:
Reports to the Behavior & Enrichment Manager. Works closely with adoptions, animal care, and medical teams, as well as potential adopters and volunteers.
Our Ideal Candidate:
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about animals, eager to learn, and interested in building a future in animal welfare, dog training, shelter behavior, or canine care. Experience is a plus, but not required, we are happy to train the right person.
The ideal candidate is:
- Interested in a career working with dogs or animal behavior
- Comfortable handling dogs of all sizes, including large and energetic dogs
- Compassionate, observant, and patient
- A strong communicator and team player
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working outdoors in the various weather elements of Georgia and a shelter environment (extreme heat, cold, dust, dirt, temperature changes, rain, occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors and dander).
