Teachers at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provide students with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts, and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. Since 1996, PVPA has prepared students for higher education by employing a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing and collaborative environment.


PVPA has an opportunity for a full-time High School History Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for:

  1. Teaching five classes that will include: Civics in Action, American History, and Psychology.
  2. Preparing curricula and instructional materials based on set departmental learning objectives.
  3. Assessing student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via PowerSchool online grading system
  4. Applying PVPA’s standards-based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement
  5. Providing structure in the class by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning, respectful and adheres to class norms
  6. Coordinating with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  7. Supervising students during non-class time (e.g., lunch) as required
  8. Attending and participating in regular faculty collaborative time meetings and school-wide professional development activities
  9. Attending and participating in meetings with students and/or parents/guardians as scheduled, including an evening open house, and parent-teacher conferences
  10. Participating in school-wide events that occur during the school day
  11. Assisting with other faculty administrative duties as required


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualification include:

  1. Two to five years of experience teaching history in a public or private school, preferably at the high school level
  2. Strong interest and experience in developing history curriculum
  3. Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
  4. Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and MS Math MTEL exam within 1 year).
  5. Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
  6. Massachusetts teaching license in subject area

Other Information/Instructions:

Salary Range: Full time $43,268 to $68,719 annually dependent upon degree and experience. Additional $1,000 stipend for any individual who holds a valid DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year.

2026-2027 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five-hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
