Job Description

Job Description

CASA of Berks County is seeking a full-time Advocate Supervisor to train, support, and guide volunteer court-appointed special advocates who work with children involved in the child welfare system.

This is a community-based, relationship-centered role. Advocate Supervisors work closely with volunteers as they navigate complex family situations, court processes, and emotionally challenging circumstances. The work requires strong judgment, emotional presence, and the ability to support others without rigid scripts or clear-cut solutions. This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working in unstructured environments, values human connection as much as outcomes, and is able to hold boundaries while remaining deeply engaged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train and coach volunteers during formal training sessions and throughout active cases
  • Support volunteers as they interact with judges, caseworkers, medical providers, foster parents, biological parents, and schools
  • Guide volunteers in building meaningful, appropriate connections with the children they serve
  • Review, edit, and coach volunteers on court reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Attend court hearings with volunteers and provide preparation and follow-up support
  • Navigate and help resolve relationship challenges between volunteers and case stakeholders
  • Maintain regular, proactive communication with volunteers, particularly during difficult or emotionally charged situations
  • Keep detailed, timely records of volunteer assignments, contacts, and case progress
  • Ensure advocacy services meet CASA standards and that reports are submitted on time

The Reality of the Work

This role involves:

  • Regular exposure to family stress, trauma, and system limitations
  • Navigating ambiguity and competing perspectives without immediate resolution
  • Supporting volunteers who may feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or emotionally impacted by their cases
  • Balancing compassion with accountability and professional boundaries

Candidates are encouraged to reflect on whether this type of work aligns with their current professional and personal capacity.

Who Thrives in This Role

Successful candidates typically:

  • Have experience in community-based, human services, advocacy, or support roles
  • Are comfortable building relationships across differences in culture, class, and life experience
  • Can sit with uncertainty and avoid the urge to “fix” complex situations too quickly
  • Are self-aware about emotional limits and use healthy strategies to manage stress
  • Are able to fully commit time, focus, and emotional energy to this work at this stage of life

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with abused or neglected children or vulnerable populations
  • Experience supporting or supervising volunteers
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse individuals
  • Experience in community-based or relational work environments
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus
  • AA degree or higher preferred

Job Details

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Work Location: In person (Wyomissing, PA)
  • Schedule: Flexible
  • Benefits include paid time off
