Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students and staff within a school environment located in Absecon, NJ. This role involves providing effective communication access through sign language interpretation to ensure an inclusive and engaging learning experience for all individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear and accurate sign language interpretation between students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction and school events.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to accommodate communication needs and promote equal participation.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to professional ethical standards.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with interpreting techniques and educational practices.
- Travel within the assigned region to serve multiple school settings as required.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting experience in educational settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively mediate between hearing and deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals.
- Ability to travel between assigned locations efficiently.
- Familiarity with the educational system and terminology is a plus.
- Relevant certification or training in sign language interpretation is preferred.
