Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Reliability Engineer to join our maintenance team in Petersburg, VA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining all process and support equipment systems, ensuring they are in excellent operating condition. This role requires a deep commitment to safety, quality, and experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, equipment, and GMP regulations.
Responsibilities
- Follow and enforce all safety protocols, including site job permitting to ensure all personnel work safely and according to site policy.
- Create and oversee scheduled preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including reactors, dryers, vacuum systems, boilers, chillers, air handlers, generators, pumps, and more.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues, identifying root causes of failures and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and calibration of new equipment and machinery, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repair logs, parts inventory, change controls, and deviations.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production schedule disruptions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend enhancements to equipment and maintenance procedures to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety.
- Source and coordinate contractors when needed to execute work on equipment beyond the internal team's capability.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the manufacturing industry in an engineering role.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Systems, Chemical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Strong technical aptitude in troubleshooting and repairing complex systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of GMP, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements in a pharmaceutical environment.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Knowledge and application of lean manufacturing and data analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Able to lead trainings for operators and technicians.
- Experience in creating Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Troubleshooting Guides.
- Understanding of engineering concepts such as fluid mechanics, thermal mechanics, pressurized systems, vacuum systems, and material compatibilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanical engineering background.
- Process engineering experience.
- Experience with equipment validation, FDA compliance, and validation protocols.
- Proficiency in process improvement, preventive maintenance, continuous improvement, and reliability engineering.
Work Environment
The plant is staffed by around 150 employees, with a maintenance team of 10-15. The role involves standard day shifts, but may require support during nights and weekends if necessary. The engineer will work closely with maintenance mechanics but will not lead them directly. The environment offers significant room for growth and the ability to lead teams and initiatives throughout the plan

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $55.28/hr.
