About the Role:

The Biller plays a critical role in the healthcare revenue cycle by ensuring accurate and timely processing of medical claims and patient billing. This position is responsible for managing healthcare claims from submission through payment, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The Biller collaborates closely with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate smooth financial transactions and optimize reimbursement. Attention to detail and a thorough understanding of medical billing and coding standards are essential to minimize claim denials and delays. Ultimately, the Biller contributes to the financial health of the organization by ensuring that services rendered are properly documented and compensated.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in medical billing and coding preferred.
  • Proven experience in healthcare claims processing and charge entry.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing and coding systems, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
  • Familiarity with healthcare insurance policies and payer requirements.
  • Proficiency in using medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification such as Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
  • Experience working in a healthcare or social assistance setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare compliance and regulatory standards such as HIPAA.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to billing discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Process and submit healthcare claims accurately and in a timely manner according to payer guidelines.
  • Perform charge entry by reviewing medical documentation and coding information to ensure correct billing.
  • Review and resolve claim denials and rejections by communicating with insurance companies and healthcare providers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical billing codes, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations.
  • Generate patient statements, handle billing inquiries, and assist patients with payment plans or billing questions.
