Your Role: Middle School Math Teacher

As a Middle School Math Teacher, you will be an integral part of a grade-level team, guiding students on their journey to becoming self-directed learners. Your passion for mathematics will inspire students to embrace challenges and develop critical thinking skills. By the end of eighth grade, your students will be well-prepared for the academic rigor of high school.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Teach foundational middle school math concepts, including ratios, proportions, expressions, equations, and more!
  • Utilize our CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
  • Encourage students to tackle problems and explore various solutions.
  • Foster confidence and engagement in mathematics through your enthusiasm for the subject.

2. Data Analysis

  • Collaborate weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.

3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Engage with families to provide the necessary resources for student success.
  • Participate in practice-based professional development and mentorship sessions.
  • Contribute to weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and model our core values.
  • Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with internal and external partners for student success.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and applies feedback to enhance outcomes.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Teacher certification is not mandatory for consideration in NJ, but candidates must meet state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $56,000 to $80,000, determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience, educational certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $56,000.
