Job DescriptionPsychiatrist Position at Our Organization in New York, NY

This role is for a full-time Psychiatrist within the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, concentrating on the Primary Care/Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) initiative. The psychiatrist will offer consultative assistance to primary care providers, oversee outpatient panels with a variety of psychiatric conditions, and manage psychotropic medication treatments. This position emphasizes collaboration in integrated care environments, aiming to promote early intervention and the prevention of behavioral health issues among veterans.

The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHCS) operates multiple medical facilities, including a significant medical center in Manhattan, locations in Brooklyn and St. Albans in Queens, as well as two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). NYHHCS is recognized as an academic institution with active teaching and research programs.

Our organization, located on the Manhattan campus and affiliated with a prominent medical school, is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist for our Primary Care/Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program.

Key Responsibilities:

The PCMHI program represents the VA's strategy to merge mental and behavioral health services within medical settings that work closely with primary care teams. This initiative prioritizes early intervention and prevention for mild to moderate behavioral health challenges in primary care, while also facilitating the identification and referral of veterans to specialized mental health services when required. PCMHI services include collaborative care providers and Mental Health Collaborative Care Managers who deliver ongoing support and treatment management, ensuring that veterans receive tailored care according to their needs. The psychiatrist's role includes providing consultative support to Primary Care Providers, advising them on the use of psychotropic medications as part of the VA's stepped mental health care model. Additionally, while remaining fully integrated within the Primary Care clinic, the psychiatrist will manage a panel of outpatients from the Mental Health Clinic, focusing primarily on medication management for a diverse range of psychiatric disorders.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers student loan repayment assistance. Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) apply.
