POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Swim Team Coach helps support the mission, goals, and objectives of the Bradford Barracudas swim team and the YMCA. Under the guidance of the Head Coach and Aquatics Director, the Assistant Coach provides leadership, skill development, and an inclusive, team-centered environment for swimmers of all abilities. This position requires enthusiasm, professionalism, and a commitment to nurturing the potential of youth through competitive swimming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and leading swim team practices in alignment with YMCA best practices and age-appropriate skill development.
- Model and teach the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
- Foster a positive team environment that supports individual growth, sportsmanship, and team unity.
- Help manage and attend swim meets, including preparation, warm-ups, and supporting swimmers during races.
- Maintain a safe and organized pool deck environment and enforce all YMCA aquatic policies.
- Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and other coaches in a respectful and timely manner.
- Ensure equipment and facilities are used appropriately and report any concerns or maintenance needs to the Aquatics Director.
- Support the Y’s commitment to safety, including completing required trainings and certifications.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 16 years
- Competitive swimming background required; coaching experience preferred
- Must hold current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid
- USA Swimming coach certification or willingness to obtain preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
