The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals. This area includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a branch of Manchester Memorial Hospital with 102 beds, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region caters to a population of 300,000 across 19 towns.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Using the nursing process, you will deliver high-quality direct and indirect patient-centered care. You will coordinate patient care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status appropriately and respond swiftly and accurately to any changes in their condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles throughout the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients' conditions and care needs, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
  • Evaluate and manage pain effectively, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques, while educating patients and families about pain management. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and evaluations of effectiveness.
  • Develop and update individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize the risk of medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their proper administration based on the patient's age and clinical condition.
  • Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
  • Document the nursing process and responses to care promptly using the appropriate tools.
  • Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
  • Create and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of the learning process.
  • Demonstrate independent practice consistent with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional growth while serving as a role model and mentor.
  • Understand growth and development principles across the lifespan, interpreting patient data to identify age-specific needs and deliver appropriate care.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, peripheral and central line insertions, and epidural catheter placements.
  • Exhibit knowledge of airway management and the ability to utilize the necessary equipment.
  • Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
  • Provide accurate and relevant reports on patients' conditions for safe transitions of care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
  • Experience in critical care is preferred.
