Job Title: Safety Specialist (Direct Hire)
Location: Bridgeton, MO 63044
Travel: Up to 50% domestic travel required
Compensation: $90k/yr + Eligible for 5% bonus
Position Summary
As a Safety Specialist with Kelly, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing safety exposures that could result in personal injury, accidents, property damage, or regulatory penalties. Serving as the primary point of contact for all safety-related issues, you will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety, health, and DOT regulations as well as company policies and procedures. Significant travel within the U.S. is required for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for all Safety & Health matters
- Ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal Safety & Health and DOT laws, regulations, permits, and company policies/procedures
- Design, update, and implement company safety policies and procedures across various divisions and departments
- Develop and conduct Safety & Health training for associates
- Conduct periodic audits and strive for continuous improvement in Safety & Health and DOT compliance
- Maintain all required safety records per regulatory and company mandates
- Keep informed on evolving Safety & Health laws, regulations, and technologies, recommending adoption as appropriate
- Oversee prompt corrective actions for near-miss incidents, injuries, hazards, compliance inspections, and audits
- Advise company leadership and staff on regulatory and company safety requirements to reduce workplace risks
- Coordinate occupational health monitoring (e.g., respiratory, noise, chemicals) for associates
- Manage and coordinate workers compensation, liability, general auto liability, and property claims
- Oversee annual programs, audits, and service instructions with insurance carriers and brokers
- Interpret and resolve loss control recommendations from insurance specialists
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety and 3–5 years of Industrial/Occupational Safety & Health and DOT experience; OR
- Associate or Technical degree and 5–8 years of related experience
- Extensive knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Safety & Health and DOT regulations and standards
- Experience with workers’ compensation, transportation laws, fire protection/prevention, and industrial hygiene
- Strong communication skills—from laborers to senior management—to build support for safety programs
- Ability to work within regulatory guidelines and partner with agency personnel
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and program development skills
- Team-oriented, proactive, and capable of driving safety and risk management initiatives
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Proven integrity and ability to foster open, trust-based relationships across teams
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record; ability to travel as required
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test (THC/marijuana not included)
