Concrete Project Engineer
Job Summary:
The Concrete Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of concrete construction projects. This role acts as a bridge between project management and field operations, assisting in technical planning, cost estimation, quality control, and subcontractor coordination. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of concrete materials and construction methods, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination & Support:
- Assist Project Manager with planning, scheduling, and executing concrete construction projects.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
Technical Oversight:
- Provide technical support on concrete mix designs, formwork, rebar placement, and finishing procedures.
- Conduct pre-pour inspections and post-pour quality checks.
- Assist with layout, surveying, and interpretation of construction documents.
Cost & Schedule Management:
- Track material quantities, labor hours, and equipment usage for reporting and billing.
- Support development of project budgets and cost estimates.
- Monitor project schedules and help identify delays or scope changes.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare daily reports, RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and change orders.
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings and project documentation.
- Ensure all project records are organized and updated in project management systems (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
Safety & Compliance:
- Promote and enforce job site safety in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
- Attend safety meetings and ensure crews are following proper procedures and PPE requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (required)
- 1–4 years of experience in concrete construction or engineering (internship or co-op experience may count)
- Familiarity with concrete codes (ACI, ASTM), mix design principles, and field testing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software (e.g., Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification (preferred)
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification is a plus
Work Environment:
- Time split between job sites and office
- May require travel to various project locations and occasional extended hours depending on project demands
