Job Description

Job DescriptionDescription:

Ready to be a part of the company transforming FinTech and how the world accesses banking services?

When was the last time you were excited about interacting with your bank or credit union? If the answer is “a while” then you’re in good company. Despite the fact that access to better financial choices is at the heart of empowering communities, businesses, and people, financial institutions (FIs) are struggling to keep up with modern expectations.

And that’s where Kinective comes in. We’re here to change the way the world accesses and thinks about banking through software that connects a historically “boring” industry to the latest and greatest fintechs shaping the industry.?

Ok... but what does all of that?actually?mean? Banks and credit unions are using some pretty old-school systems, which makes adopting new and innovative technology difficult (if not impossible). If you think it’s easy for your local branch to send you a receipt via text… think again.

Want proof? As the largest provider of software connectivity to 1 in 4 U.S. financial institutions, we are the leading company transforming the way banking is done for credit unions and banks. (In fact, Forbes recently released their Best Banks in the World report, and Kinective works with over 60% of their named banks!).?

Kinective is the connector (get it?) that bridges that technology gap and helps modernize the way banking works. Our 300+ team of mega-talented and passionate folks are brought together with the unifying desire to make life easier (and better) for our clients and ultimately paving the way for banks and credit unions to modernize banking for everyone.

The Cliffs Notes

As a Product Designer, you’ll join a small but growing design team responsible for elevating the experience of complex financial software. You’ll work closely with Product and Engineering partners to design features from early discovery through final handoff, ensuring that every pixel serves a purpose. This is a generalist UX role, meaning you’ll flex between user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, user research, documentation, and stakeholder presentations.

Our team is still in its early stages, and this role offers the chance to help shape the systems, tools, and processes we’ll grow into. If you're a strong communicator, a strategic thinker, and passionate about simplifying complexity for users in high-stakes environments, we want to hear from you.

What you’ll own

Design Execution

  • Contribute to UX design work across multiple web and mobile applications—from minor usability fixes to full feature design
  • Translate business and user needs into clear, effective designs through sketches, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
  • Deliver well-documented design specs that support smooth developer handoff

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers in cross-functional squads to align on feature release goals and define user requirements
  • Communicate design decisions clearly and thoughtfully to stakeholders and teammates
  • Share ideas and feedback early and often—our best work comes from collaboration, not isolation

Documentation & Systems

  • Maintain a single source of truth for project designs, decisions, and rationale
  • Apply design system standards and help refine them as needed for new use cases
  • Contribute to the development of internal UX processes, templates, and best practices as the team scales

What you’re great at

  • User-centered thinking – You design with empathy, balancing user needs with business constraints
  • Systems-level clarity – You can zoom out to understand workflows and zoom in to perfect the details
  • Clear communication – You explain your thinking with confidence and welcome feedback without ego
  • Self-direction – You’re comfortable owning projects, asking good questions, and figuring things out with minimal guidance
  • B2B mindset – You understand how to design for complex tools, not just consumer-facing apps

Requirements:

Necessary qualifications

  • BA/BS in Design, Engineering, or a relevant field with 1-3 years of work experience
  • Or MS in UX without work experience
  • Or UX Bootcamp / certification with at least 3+ years of work experience
  • Portfolio showcasing real-world projects with clear problem statements and process
  • Proficiency in Figma (design, prototyping, and component systems)
  • Strong grasp of UX fundamentals: flows, IA, visual hierarchy, interaction patterns
  • Understanding of the importance of the iterative process in design and skilled in the methods (i.e. user flows, wireframing, prototyping, user testing, etc.) used to find successful solutions
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams with Product and Engineering
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and prioritizing multiple projects
  • Strong attention to detail with an eye for good design
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and how it affects the UI
  • Always designs with the user first and has the data, research, and testing to back up their assumptions about the user
  • Highly collaborative, good at giving constructive feedback to and asking for feedback from team members to improve and push a design solution
  • Experience conducting user research to justify design decisions

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working with Pendo or similar tools
  • Experience visualizing data
  • Experience with Storybook or similar tools
