Summary of the position

As an essential member of the tax team, responsibilities of a Tax Specialist primarily include supporting the firm’s Tax Advisors, who oversee the integrated tax management of a defined segment of our client base. Successful support of tax client relationships involves developing a cohesive awareness of each client’s unique investment, estate, financial, tax, insurance and philanthropic needs. This is a non-client facing role and is responsible for supporting Tax Advisors in managing their client relationships. The Tax Specialist position also offers a pathway for candidates interested in progressing toward a Tax Advisor position in the future.

We are targeting a base salary range of $50,000 to $65,000 for this position, along with bonus incentives and a competitive benefits package provided to our employees.

Responsibilities

  • As an individual contributor, and under the direct guidance of a CPA, has responsibility for the preparation of individual, business and trust tax returns and individual tax projections.
  • Provides support to the tax advisors to ensure that all tax related research and data gathering is complete, and presentation materials are prepared in a timely fashion for clients and prospects.
  • Engages in a full curriculum of rotational learning, application of scholastic experience, and application of newly acquired skills.
  • Effectively responds, both verbally and in written form, to tax inquiries within the firm.
  • Intellectually grasps through discussion, conversation, reading, implementation and monitoring the benefits to the client of an integrated tax management platform as a component of their financial plan.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Proven proficiency in MS Office products
  • Proficiency with tax and financial software solutions such as UltraTax, SurePrep, and Tamarac
  • Skilled in effective and professional communication, both written and verbal

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a plus, or a willingness to work towards CPA licensure with support from the firm
  • Experience in the financial services industry is beneficial
