Job Title: Medical Assistant
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor
Status: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Job Summary
A busy, 11-provider Otolaryngology (ENT) practice is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to support both clinical and administrative operations. This role is critical in ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate clinical documentation, and exceptional patient care in a fast-paced specialty environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and comfortable assisting with ENT-specific procedures and diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist ENT providers with patient examinations and in-office procedures, including but not limited to nasal endoscopy, ear microscopy, cerumen removal, and minor procedures.
- Prepare exam rooms and patients for ENT procedures; assist providers during procedures as needed.
- Accurately document patient medical history, chief complaint, and reason for visit in the electronic medical record, ensuring all required consent and authorization forms are completed.
- Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and oxygen saturation.
- Perform room turnover and restock exam rooms with appropriate ENT supplies, cultures, and instruments; ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
- Adhere strictly to sterilization and infection-control protocols, including routine cleaning and high-level disinfection of scopes and instruments.
- Maintain efficient patient flow and communicate patient needs or concerns to providers that may impact clinic or procedure schedules.
- Educate patients on ENT procedures, diagnostic testing (including audiology or imaging studies when applicable), and post-procedure care; provide physician orders and educational materials.
- Complete patient callbacks regarding test results, pathology findings, follow-up appointments, and provider instructions.
- Assist with documentation, referrals, prior authorizations, and completion of patient or provider-requested forms.
- Deliver exceptional patient service by addressing patient inquiries and concerns with empathy, professionalism, and discretion.
- Other duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in an ENT or specialty medical practice strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of ENT procedures, instruments, and scope reprocessing is a plus.
- Proficiency in taking vital signs and performing basic clinical tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume clinic.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, providers, and clinical staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining professionalism at all times.
