The Machine Operator B - Welding efficiently operates production welding equipment, producing high quality parts to meet the demand of aerospace specifications. Maintains sufficient production and quality standards while acting safely and following established procedures. Performs quality inspections and routine setups and maintenance of equipment. Trains other employees and works with NPI to launch new products.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate automated welding equipment.
  • Perform continuous welds on metal parts per prints, work instructions, and weld specification.
  • Load, position, align, and clamp parts and assemblies prior to welding.
  • Adjust welding parameters to achieve proper weld quality and compliance with established procedures.
  • Inspect completed welds visually and with basic measuring tools to ensure conformance to quality standards.
  • Identify weld defects and perform rework or corrections as required.
  • Follow welding procedures, quality requirements, and safety guidelines always.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records as required.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with 5S and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, quality, and engineering to resolve welding issues.
  • Support cross-training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • May also be asked to perform a variety of work in Press Brake, Fabrication, and/or assembly departments as needed, which includes operating various machine tools.
  • Work with the New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to develop processes and procedures for new parts, including determining and documenting new set ups.
  • Make necessary adjustments to maintain production within specifications. Report worn tooling or equipment.
  • Train other employees in the safe and proper operation of equipment.
  • Responsible to maintain an individual minimum acceptable average “performance efficiency” (measured against established operation standard) level of 85% Set-up and 85% production standard, with any indirect time reported being approved.
  • Proficient at using the computer to clock in and out of jobs and obtaining and recording process data.
  • Contribute to Lean initiatives with management resulting in the elimination of wastes including overproduction, defects, transportation, waiting, inventory, motion and over-processing.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Requirements:

Required Skills and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of closely related experience.
  • Proficient reading, oral communication, and comprehension in English language.
  • Math skills including the ability to accurately report part counts and to make computations as necessary to set up and adjust equipment to make acceptable parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions
  • Basic math and measurement skills
  • Ability to use hand tools, measuring instruments, and welding fixtures
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to perform visual work-piece surface inspection.
  • Ability to work effectively within the organization and collaborate with other employees.
  • Self-directed; ability to work independently.
  • Cooperative attitude, shares critical information, and remains professional in difficult situations.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms
  • Regulations (ITAR). All employees must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred or helpful)

  • Experience working in the Aerospace, Medical or other highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of ERP software.
  • AS9100 experience.
  • Experience working in a Nadcap accredited environment
  • Relevant certification or vocational training.

Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors related to the specific position. These may include skills, relevant experience, education, internal equity, business needs, and local market conditions. While the full range is shared for transparency, offers are rarely made at the minimum or maximum of the range.
