Assistant Professor of Biology, Tenure Track

Dominican University New York, in Rockland County, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology commencing in January 2026. This is a tenure-track position. We seek motivated candidates with strong educational and research credentials who aspire to a position with a focus on in-person teaching. The following are required:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach a wide range of Biology courses
  • Mentor undergraduate research in Microbiology and Bioinformatics
  • Advise and mentor a diverse undergraduate student population
  • Provide academic help and advisement to students outside of regular class time
  • Create an effective learning environment through the use of a variety of instructional methods
  • Serve on University-wide committees
  • Collaborate with colleagues, including those in other academic areas

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Biology, Microbiology, or a closely related field; ABD will be considered if the degree shall be completed by the start date
  • Capability and enthusiasm to teach a wide range of undergraduate Biology courses, particularly in the areas of Microbiology, Cell Biology, Bioinformatics and Human Anatomy and Physiology
  • Evidence of scholarly and/or professional activities and a strong commitment to mentoring undergraduate student researchers
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment
  • Understanding of the integration of technology into teaching and learning
  • Familiarity with online instruction
  • Motivation, initiative and commitment to teaching

The Biology Program, launched in 1994, graduates students with a solid and interdisciplinary foundation in the sciences - spanning chemistry, mathematics and physics, as well as biology – to prepare them for advanced study and/or careers that require skillful observation and analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving, data-based decision-making, effective interpretation and communication of scientific information, and adept use of appropriate laboratory equipment and information technology. The program offers a Bachelor of Science as part of our Math and Science Division, as well as coursework that supports teaching certification in Adolescence Education for Biology and Childhood Education for the Natural Sciences.

Dominican University New York, located in Orangeburg, New York, is 17 miles north of New York City, with approximately 1,400 students and 400 faculty and staff.
