Job Title: MIDDLE SCHOOL CREW LEADER Classification: Full-Time, Salary Exempt Reports To: Crew Culture Leader or Principal

SUMMARY:

To plan, implement, and support a rigorous, standards-aligned instructional program in a middle school setting that fosters student achievement, character development, and a sense of belonging. Middle School Crew Leaders guide and encourage students to realize their academic and personal potential through Expeditionary Learning, community building, and collaborative teaching. Some Crew Leaders may also serve as Supporting Teachers for Level Up Math and ELA classes designed to accelerate the growth of students performing below grade level.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:Instruction and Learning:

  • Design and deliver high-quality, culturally responsive instruction in a core content area (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies).
  • Plan collaboratively to create interdisciplinary projects and standards-based expeditions rooted in real-world experiences.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of tools and strategies to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
  • Integrate technology and inquiry-based practices to support academic and character development.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs, including multilingual learners and students with IEPs.

Crew Leadership and Scholar Support:

  • Facilitate a daily Crew instruction focused on AXL's Crew Topics: Social Emotional Learning, Equity, Bias & Justice, The AXL Way, Digital Citizenship & Physical Health
  • Foster a culture of belonging, student leadership, and accountability within the Crew community.
  • Support restorative practices and positive behavior interventions to promote a safe, inclusive school climate.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families to ensure consistent communication and collaboration.

Intervention and Small Group Support (as assigned):

  • Serve as a Supporting Teacher for Level Up ELA and/or Math classes to accelerate student growth.
  • Implement targeted, small-group instruction aligned to student data and intervention goals.
  • Collaborate with interventionists and classroom teachers to ensure instructional alignment and progress monitoring.
  • Support consistent documentation of student growth and areas of need.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data-driven instruction and student outcomes.
  • Engage in coaching cycles, professional development sessions, and reflective practices.
  • Contribute to school-wide events, interdisciplinary planning, and continuous school improvement efforts.
  • Maintain compliance with FERPA, IEP accommodations, and school-wide instructional expectations.

Qualification Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Colorado teaching license or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Strong commitment to equitable education and inclusive practices.
  • Experience or demonstrated capacity to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Effective classroom management rooted in restorative practices.
  • Commitment to Expeditionary Learning principles and project-based learning.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching middle school students.
  • CLDE (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education) certification.
  • Experience in small-group intervention or academic support roles.
  • Familiarity with student-led conferences, exhibitions of learning, and interdisciplinary planning.
  • Technological proficiency in Google Suite, Infinite Campus, and other learning platforms.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other classroom technology; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Exposure to outdoor elements may occur during fieldwork and recess duties.
