Job Summary
The Paint Lead coordinates daily operations of the paint line, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality painting and finishing processes. This role provides hands-on leadership for paint shop employees, supports production goals, and helps maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards. The Paint Lead works closely with the Production Manager to meet schedules and continuously improving objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Support
- Oversee daily paint shop activities, including surface preparation, priming, painting, curing, and finishing.
- Ensure paint equipment, booths, and lines are maintained and in proper working condition.
- Assist in monitoring workflow to meet production schedules and delivery requirements.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure team adherence to company quality standards and paint specifications.
- Assist in implementing inspection procedures to minimize defects and rework.
- Support compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other safety/environmental regulations.
Team Leadership
- Lead, guide, and support paint line employees to ensure productivity and safe work practices.
- Assign daily tasks and adjust schedules as needed for coverage.
- Provide training and coaching to promote skill development and team collaboration.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in Lean initiatives to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Suggest improvements in paint application methods, color consistency, and durability.
- Work with engineering and production teams to support process enhancements.
Resource Use
- Assist in monitoring paint and supply inventory to prevent shortages or waste.
- Track paint usage and provide input on ways to improve efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School diploma required; technical training or coursework in manufacturing or industrial technology preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a paint or coatings environment (automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial preferred).
- Knowledge of paint application methods, curing processes, and coating technologies.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with OSHA/EPA regulations and safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, on-site role within the paint and production facility.
- Requires use of PPE and adherence to safety standards when on the paint line.
- Regular standing, walking, and supervision on the shop floor.
