Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited program in Civil Engineering (required)
- EIT certification required, PE preferred
- Significant experience in water main and/or sewer main construction
- Strong soft skills: must communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Resident engineering role: field-based, onsite daily, home each night
- Must be comfortable with construction observation, monitoring, and documentation
A leading engineering firm with a strong presence in the Great Lakes region is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer to support high-profile water infrastructure projects across northeast Illinois. This role is part of a growing team focused on stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water systems.
You’ll be placed on one of three major projects based on your experience:
- Joliet Drinking Water Project
- City of Chicago Sewer Water Project
- Chicago Water Transmission Program
Responsibilities:
- Perform field investigations, inspections, and assessments
- Document daily construction activities and generate field reports
- Monitor contractor compliance with plans, specs, and safety standards
- Coordinate with designers on RFIs, shop drawings, and change orders
- Communicate regularly with Project Managers and Section Managers
- Interface with clients and ensure project alignment
- Support office-based tasks during project downtime
Qualifications:
- 2–3+ years of civil engineering experience (consulting preferred)
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering techniques and construction standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and civil design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.)
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
