Our client, a well-respected MEP consultancy firm, is looking for a talented Controls Engineer with strong knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), including HVAC controls, electrical monitoring, and building system integration to join their team on a full time basis.  Ideal candidates will bring a high level of technical expertise and leadership to projects of varying scope and complexity from data centers and commercial HVAC systems to cleanrooms, light manufacturing, and other commercial facilities. This role is hybrid in  San Jose, CA and the salary range is between $125,000 - $135,000 annually.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with clients, contractors, architects, and multidisciplinary project teams, including in-house mechanical and electrical engineers. The position requires a self-motivated individual with excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 
- Develop BMS design documentation, including sequences of operations, points lists, network riser diagrams, and instrument specifications.
- Conduct on-site investigations and construction observations related to BMS projects.
- Review and recommend control strategies for various HVAC system types and configurations.
- Manage project tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Serve as the primary client contact, maintaining clear and professional communication.
- Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure cohesive project execution.
- Participate in construction site walkthroughs, project meetings and factory witness and software bench testing.
- Review submittals and ensure timely responses to RFIs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 
- 7–10 years of relevant experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of controls design experience with a consulting engineering firm or controls contractor, including demonstrated data center design experience.
- Familiarity with PLC controls and a variety of BMS platforms.
- Thorough understanding of applicable codes, standards, and construction/engineering processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong interpersonal and client service skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience with large-scale design and construction projects preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat; experience with Revit and AutoCAD preferred.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- 
- May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
- Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
- Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
