Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Utility Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide strategic advisory support for large-scale document review and regulatory matters. This is a part-time role focused on bringing industry context, regulatory insight, and risk awareness to support legal and governance teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on utility regulation, rate cases, and public service commission matters
  • Review and interpret documents to identify regulatory relevance and significance
  • Support prioritization of document review based on potential regulatory and business impact
  • Collaborate with governance and legal teams to inform risk identification and mitigation strategies
  • Offer insights to ensure alignment with the broader regulatory and compliance landscape
  • Assist in translating complex utility-related content into actionable insights for decision-makers

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of experience in the utility sector
  • Deep expertise in utility regulation, rate cases, and public utility commission proceedings
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to analyze complex documentation and identify key risks and implications
  • Experience working in advisory or consulting capacity with legal, regulatory, or governance teams preferred

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to contextualize technical and regulatory information
  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams (legal, governance, operations)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts

Work Structure

  • Part-time, advisory role
  • Works closely with Governance Leads, Legal Teams, and Review Teams
  • Provides input on an as-needed basis throughout the engagement lifecycle
