Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to youth residents within the juvenile detention center. The LPN ensures that medical services are delivered in a safe, secure, and professional manner while adhering to facility policies, state regulations, and healthcare standards. The role requires working in a structured environment with justice-involved youth
Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care including assessment, treatment, and monitoring of residents’ health conditions
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders
  • Conduct intake health screenings and document medical histories upon admission
  • Monitor vital signs and report any significant changes to the supervising nurse or physician
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid or CPR as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA standards
  • Assist with coordinating medical appointments, including off-site care if necessary
  • Educate residents on basic health, hygiene, and wellness practices
  • Ensure proper infection control procedures are followed within the facility
  • Collaborate with correctional staff to ensure safety and security during medical care delivery
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and report shortages

Qualifications

  • Current and valid LPN license in the state of employment
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (BLS preferred)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of nursing experience (correctional, psychiatric, or pediatric experience preferred)
  • Ability to work in a secure and potentially high-stress environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of adolescent health and behavioral health issues preferred
