Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
The High School Program Leader (Math/Algebra Focus) is responsible for supporting students in developing strong foundational and advanced math skills while fostering confidence in their academic abilities. This role partners with instructors to create engaging, supportive learning environments with an emphasis on Algebra and related math concepts.

Based at our East Palo Alto Clubhouse, this position is ideal for someone who is passionate about math education and youth development, and who enjoys making complex concepts accessible, relevant, and engaging for high school students. In addition to academic support, you will help students build critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application skills.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage program spaces serving approximately 20 students per staff member
  • Provide targeted academic support in Algebra and other high school math subjects
  • Offer homework help, tutoring, and individualized math support
  • Design and facilitate engaging math-focused enrichment activities and workshops
  • Break down complex math concepts into clear, accessible instruction
  • Build and adapt lesson plans aligned with Algebra concepts and student needs
  • Lead problem-solving sessions, study groups, and math skill-building exercises
  • Incorporate real-world applications of math to increase student engagement
  • Support students in building confidence and a growth mindset in math
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and leadership regarding student progress
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
  • Support special events, field trips, and program-wide initiatives
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to supporting high school students (grades 9–12) in academic success
  • Strong knowledge of Algebra and high school-level math concepts
  • Experience tutoring or teaching math (Algebra preferred)
  • Ability to explain math concepts in a clear, engaging, and student-friendly way
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including Title I schools
  • Strong relationship-building and classroom management skills
  • Ability to motivate students and build confidence in math through positive reinforcement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Spanish fluency is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; and some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling. The role also requires significant fine finger dexterity and near vision acuity. The position may occasionally involve lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Generally, the job requires approximately 20% sitting and 80% walking or standing. The work environment noise level is typically moderate but may occasionally be louder. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

LOCATION

East Palo Alto Clubhouse - East Palo Alto, CA

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 24-29 hours per week
    • 2:30pm – 7:00pm (Monday -Thursday)
    • 1:00pm – 10:00pm (Friday, June 26th & July 10th)
    • 10:00am – 6:30pm (Saturday, July 18th)
  • Weekly team meeting + additional professional development trainings

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Employment Status: Part Time-Non Exempt
  • Pay Range: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
  • Sick Time: Part-time employees accrue sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 20 hours worked, and may use up to 40 hours per year

As part of the hiring process, BGCP requires candidates to complete a LiveScan fingerprinting, background check, and tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
