Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II NICU / Special Care Nursery and Postpartum (SCN/PP) position requiring dual competency in neonatal and postpartum care on a night shift schedule.
Details
- Level II NICU / Special Care Nursery (SCN) combined with a Postpartum unit in an acute care LDRP setting
- Common diagnoses include phototherapy, feeder/growers, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, neonatal opioid withdrawal (NOW), and dx sepsis
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 babies in the SCN; when flexing to postpartum, assignment is 3 mother-baby couplets
- RNs are required to attend deliveries in the role of baby nurse
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes Bubble CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and ventilator support prior to transfer
- Titratable drips include D5W and TPN
- Neonatologist is in-house 24/7
- No telemetry monitoring or monitor techs on this unit
- EMR is Epic
- 12-hour night shifts with block scheduling
- Every other weekend required
- 1 summer and 1 winter holiday required
- Standby (on-call) requirement applies
- Floating is required between SCN and Postpartum within the same LDRP department based on census needs
Requirements
- Active WA state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS (AHA) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- NICU Level II experience strongly preferred; postpartum experience also preferred
- Must be skilled in attending deliveries as the baby nurse
- IV start and maintenance skills required
- Experience with Bubble CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and umbilical line placement assist and maintenance required
- Experience transferring patients to a higher level of care required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 3 nights with staff
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
