Job Summary: The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to assigned patients from newborn to geriatric populations according to the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and in compliance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, functions independently within established department policies and goals, refers problems to the nurse manager or appropriate supervisor, and directs and or assists with the activities of licensed practical nurses and ancillary nursing personnel. Job Responsibilities: -Nurses may also be held accountable for job-specific/unit-specific competencies if applicable. Details of these competencies will be provided by the Nurse Manager of that unit/dept. and/or Staff Educator. -Collects relevant patient health data appropriate to age and specialty area during assessment. -Analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses. -Identifies individualized and expected patient outcomes. -Develops and implements a plan of care prescribing nursing interventions to attain expected outcomes. -Evaluates and documents patient progress toward expected outcomes in the medical record. -Provides nursing care to assigned patients. -Administers prescribed medications and intravenous solutions safely. -Reports significant changes in patient condition to physicians. -Counsels, educates, and involves patients and families according to the plan of care. -Assists patients and families in coping with stress related to illness and provides support to dying patients. -Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. -Reflects knowledge of current professional nursing standards, laws, and healthcare regulations in daily practice. -Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in patient care. -Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and healthcare providers. -Makes ethical decisions and actions on behalf of patients. -Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide humane and healing care. -Uses clinical inquiry and research in nursing practice. -Considers safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care. -Adheres to nursing and hospital policies, procedures, and regulations. -Performs responsibilities independently or with minimal supervision. -Participates in continuing education to maintain nursing standards as required by Massachusetts regulations. -Demonstrates respect for patient dignity, cultural diversity, and professional communication standards. -Utilizes LEAN strategies for process improvement and systematic problem solving. -Performs other duties as required or assigned, including assuming additional responsibilities in the absence of the nurse manager.

Required Skills & Experience: -Ability to understand patient needs and provide accurate information while resolving problems using logical thinking and follow through. -Ability to function calmly and logically under tense and difficult situations. -Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations. -Ability to provide constructive feedback and initiate corrective actions. -Ability to manage difficult patients effectively. -Ability to handle unique situations with limited standardization. -Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions. -Ability to exercise appropriate judgment in communication and actions with patients, physicians, associates, and external agencies. -Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. -May be a beginning practitioner.
