The primary function of the DC Prevention Center (DCPC) DC Opioid Response (DCOR) Community Mobilizer is to serve as a liaison between the Prevention Center and Ward 1 & 2 communities by attending relevant community meetings and events; identifying links between the information presented at these meetings and how they guide DCPC actions related to DCOR deliverables; and assisting in the implementation of community conversations and forums. The Program Coordinator will select appropriate materials and disseminate community education on opioid misuse and abuse through events and meetings.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend relevant community meetings and events as a representative of the DCPC DCOR 2 initiative to identify potential networks, conduct community education, and learn about current community issues that are of interest to the Prevention Center.
  • Conduct technical assistance and training for networks to increase their capacity to create community change regarding opioid use and misuse;
  • Develop and maintain resources and strong working relationships with networks and other agencies within the community;
  • In coordination with other DCPC staff, execute marketing strategy including logo, graphic design and other identifiers to promote the DCPC and DCOR related campaigns.
  • Conduct community education and participate in community mobilization activities with DCPC, LAYC, or other community organization staff during on- and off-site organizational events related to DCOR deliverables.
  • Assist in implementation and development of community forums on opioid use/misuse;
  • Maintain current and accurate knowledge of substance abuse as it pertains to target population;
  • Ensure that all documentation, including statistics, meeting attendance, and data is accurate and entered in ETO software system or other databases as appropriate;
  • Become a certified trainer through the department of Behavioral Health to deliver naloxone trainings.
  • Contribute narrative reports as required by the substance use disorders (SUDS) Prevention staff at DBH;
  • Document all contacts with youth, family members, LAYC staff, and other agencies involved in the provision of services.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s degree or two years of youth development experience is a plus.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of community and local resources.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
