Position Summary

Oversee the operations of the Nursing department, including the delivery of nursing services.

Actively participates in the Performance Improvement and Risk Management programs.

Interpret accreditation and regulatory standards and implement processes to ensure compliance.

Develop and implement goals, policies and protocols.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria

Bachelors or Associates degree in nursing from an accredited program

Current state licensure

3 years of substance abuse or psychiatric nursing experience, with a minimum of 2 years consisting of management/administrative/Director of Nursing experience.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple responsibilities effectively.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications

CPR/CPI certification (provided during orientation if not current)


Primary Responsibilities

Leadership

Serve as a member of the Management Team and on committees as assigned.

Serve as the leader to the nursing department staff by providing support, guidance and information.

Serve as Administrator on Call as assigned.

Nursing Supervision

Manage the daily operations of nursing services.

Provides client care as defined in the Registered Nurse job description

Ensure nursing services are provided in compliance with the laws and regulations of federal, state and local governmental agencies and with the standards, rules and regulations of various accrediting and approval agencies, including The Joint Commission and/or CARF.

Develop and maintain a staffing schedule that meets minimum staffing requirements and supports staffing to patient acuity.

Monitor unit/program functioning through direct observation of patient care and review of medical record documentation.

Integrate nursing functions with Clinical Services and Admissions processes, assuring efficient and effective operations.

Intervene in crisis situations and investigate incidents, events, and/or process variances.

Administrative Management

Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements and share with staff to ensure their understanding of and adherence to these requirements.

Develop and implement goals, policies, procedures and protocols.

Develop and implement tools to measure, assess and improve quality of nursing care, treatment and service.

Provide reports assigned by the CEO.

Oversee nursing services documentation to ensure it meets facility policy and regulatory standards.

Hire, orient, train, supervise and evaluate employees and contract staff.

Provide departmental orientation that is specific to the functions of the department and the job responsibilities of the staff members.


Budget Management

Actively participate in strategic planning and budget development.

Formulate flexible staffing plan for nursing services in conjunction with facility leadership.

Manage the Nursing department within fiscal guidelines.


Performance Improvement

Actively participate in Performance Improvement activities as approved through the Performance Improvement Committee.

Manage data collection, analysis, and performance improvement activities related to nursing services.

Risk Management

Ensure department staff are trained in safety measures, including client rounds.

Utilize RiskQual for staff to document Incident Reports

Utilize reports in RiskQual to identify and address trends and staff performance issues in the area of risk management.

Community Relations

Represent the facility within the community.

Provide educational presentations to facility staff and community.

Develop working relationships with referral sources and community agencies in conjunction with facility marketing efforts.
