Position Overview

We are seeking a results-driven Director of Operations to lead execution, drive operational excellence, and scale a high-growth civil construction business. This role is ideal for a dynamic leader who thrives in a hands-on environment, communicates effectively, and is passionate about building both high-performing teams and scalable systems.

As a key operational leader, you will be responsible for driving the company’s growth from $11M to $20M+ while maintaining strong performance, culture, and customer relationships. This position offers a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role with significant visibility and long-term growth potential.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Execution

  • Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient execution across all projects and business functions.
  • Own and manage operational P&L performance, driving profitability and cost control.
  • Oversee estimating activities, pricing customer proposals, and establishing margin targets.
  • Build and manage budgets while monitoring key performance indicators to ensure operational success.
  • Support field teams, including crews and superintendents, to enhance productivity and project outcomes.
  • Oversee equipment and fleet operations (with capital expenditure decisions retained by the CEO).

Business Growth & Strategy

  • Drive scalable systems and process improvements across the organization.
  • Identify opportunities for business expansion, operational efficiencies, and new revenue streams.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of new business lines.
  • Strengthen and maintain customer relationships through proactive communication and service delivery.

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams, fostering a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative culture.
  • Support workforce planning, including hiring and termination recommendations (subject to CEO approval).
  • Promote employee engagement, development, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Project & Construction Management

  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including sourcing, estimating, planning, execution, and closeout.
  • Oversee scheduling and execution of self-perform crews.
  • Ensure compliance with contracts, technical specifications, and customer expectations.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in civil construction, environmental services, reclamation, or revegetation, with progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven experience managing teams, evaluating performance, and leading operations.
  • Hands-on experience with project lifecycle management from estimation through closeout.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and technical documentation.
  • Ability to effectively manage customer relationships and respond to evolving project needs.
