Job DescriptionJob Summary:


We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our gastroenterology surgical team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain specialized training in GI procedures, including colonoscopy and endoscopy. The ideal candidate will assist with surgical preparation, maintain a sterile environment, and support the GI team during procedures, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and surgical efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:


Surgical Preparation & Support:


  • Prepare procedure rooms for GI surgeries, ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and set up.

  • Assist during endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures by passing instruments, managing scopes, and anticipating the needs of the physician.

  • Maintain a sterile field and follow proper infection control practices throughout all procedures.

  • Monitor equipment functionality and troubleshoot minor technical issues.

Instrument & Equipment Management:


  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopic instruments and surgical tools according to protocol.

  • Ensure proper storage and maintenance of surgical instruments and scopes.

  • Assist with setup and calibration of GI-related surgical equipment.

Patient Care & Documentation:


  • Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff to position patients for procedures and provide reassurance and pre-op support.

  • Label and handle biopsy specimens correctly for lab submission.

  • Document procedural information accurately in the EHR system (Mod Med preferred).

Administrative & Coordination Duties:


  • Assist with procedure scheduling and confirmations as needed.

  • Coordinate with the Authorization and Eligibility departments to verify surgical clearances.

  • Track inventory levels for surgical supplies and instruments, and report needs promptly.

Qualifications:


  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred.

  • Current BLS certification.

  • Current TB test or flu shot.

  • Hepatitis and Varicella titers required.

  • COVID-19 vaccination required.

  • Previous experience in GI procedures or outpatient surgical settings preferred.

  • Strong understanding of sterile technique and surgical safety protocols.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Work Environment:


  • Fast-paced ambulatory surgical center specializing in gastroenterology.

  • Regular exposure to surgical equipment, bodily fluids, and sterilization chemicals (protective equipment provided).

Work Experience


  • Two years of experience required
