Job Description

*The Possible Zone (TPZ), in partnership with Insource Services Inc., is seeking a qualified candidate to join our team in this role.*

Are you a detail-oriented and experienced accounting professional with a passion for supporting nonprofit organizations? Do you have a strong background in accounts payable, along with a proven ability to streamline financial processes and contribute to the financial health of a growing nonprofit?

About The Possible Zone (TPZ):

Imagine a world where every young person has the opportunity to design their future, launch their own ventures, and develop the skills to succeed in any career path. At The Possible Zone (TPZ), we're on a mission to make this vision a reality by advancing economic equity and empowering youth. Based in Boston, TPZ is a nonprofit offering a multi-year, project-based entrepreneurship program for high school students. We combine STEAM education, hands-on work experience, and individualized career advising to help young people develop entrepreneurial mindsets and technical skills. Together, we're shaping the next generation of leaders and changemakers.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

As our Accounts Payable Specialist, you'll handle the day-to-day AP operations and play a key role in maintaining compliance, supporting audits, and improving processes as part of a growing Finance team. You'll work closely with our Controller, Senior Staff Accountant, and VP of Finance & Financial Strategies to build a finance infrastructure that supports TPZ's hybrid revenue streams - from public grants to earned income.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process a high volume of invoices and payment requests accurately and on time
  • Ensure documentation is complete and approvals are in place
  • Manage vendor records and ensure IRS 1099 compliance
  • Execute weekly payment runs (ACH, wire, check)
  • Reconcile accounts payable and resolve discrepancies
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure proper coding of expenses
  • Support month- and year-end closings, audits, and accruals
  • Maintain up-to-date, organized records and internal controls
  • Help manage business credit/debit cards and multiple bank accounts
  • Utilize QuickBooks Online and Coupa for tracking and reporting
  • Jump in to support Accounts Receivable and cross-functional projects as needed

You'll Stand Out If You Have:

  • 3-5 years of AP experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong command of QuickBooks Online and Excel
  • Familiarity with Coupa (preferred)
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with strong time management skills
  • Comfortable in dynamic, collaborative environments
  • A proactive communicator with a problem-solving mindset
  • Passion for TPZ's mission and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Why You'll Love Working Here:

  • Meaningful Impact: Be part of an organization dedicated to transforming lives and advancing economic equity.
  • Robust Compensation and Comprehensive Benefits: Enjoy a competitive salary of $65,000-$75,000 and a benefits package that includes high-quality health, dental, and vision benefits (all 80% employer-paid), life and disability benefits (100% employer-paid), an employer contribution to your 401(k) plan, a Commuter Stipend, FSA, Paid Parental Leave, up to 25 days Paid Time Off, and approximately 20 paid holidays per year.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy a hybrid schedule, with three days per week at our Boston office.
  • Dynamic Culture: Work alongside a passionate team in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Professional Growth: Expand your skills while contributing to a mission that truly matters.

DEI Statement:

We believe every member of our team and student body deserves opportunities for growth, success, and inclusion. We recognize that for many of our students, staff, and communities, their life journeys run through oppressive structures and systems (e.g. classism, racism, sexism) - and that's what makes our organizational culture and work so necessary and important.

We believe that diversity in perspective, backgrounds, ethnicities, and lived experience is a strength, and from that strength, we can accomplish great things with the students we serve. Together as students, staff, organizations, communities, volunteers, and partners, we are intentional about creating safe spaces where all members can speak authentically and be themselves.

We are committed to Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity. As members of The Possible Zone community, our progression along this ongoing journey raises thoughtful questions, reveals biases, and opens conversations. We celebrate one another and are unified in our commitment to young people, excellence, and innovation. This work is our shared responsibility and our opportunity to welcome all members who share in our mission and strive to provide pathways that further prepare students to achieve their desired success.

COVID Vaccination Policy

The Possible Zone requires that all employees receive a primary series of COVID-19 vaccination as well as a booster dose. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen and receives a booster dose when eligible. In order to be qualified for employment at The Possible Zone, final candidates must comply with the vaccination requirement or receive an approved exemption.
