Job Overview:
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a highly skilled Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse to support surgical recovery services at the Mike OCallaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC). The PACU RN will care for patients recovering from general, regional, or local anesthesia, monitoring for complications and ensuring safe transition to home or inpatient units. This nurse also provides procedural support for GI, IR, and Vascular services.
General Duties:

  • Practice within assigned privileges and MTF guidelines.
  • Perform all services per DHA standards and contract requirements.

Specific Duties:

  • Monitor patients immediately post-surgery for airway patency, vitals, consciousness, and pain control.
  • Administer IV medications, oxygen therapy, and emergency interventions as needed.
  • Manage post-anesthesia complications such as nausea, respiratory distress, or bleeding.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in EMRs and PACU records.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and OR staff for patient hand-offs.
  • Provide patient/family education prior to discharge.
  • Rotate support in GI and IR suites and provide coverage across procedural recovery areas.

Qualifications:

  • Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Education: Graduate of an NLNAC or CCNE-accredited institution.
  • Certification:
    • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (AHA or Red Cross)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a clinical nurse in medical/surgical
  • At least 1 year of recent PACU, ICU, or Emergency Room nursing experience

Licensure:

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in post-op assessments, airway management, and emergency response
  • Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration, and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Ability to recognize complications early and act quickly
  • Strong communication for coordinating hand-offs and educating patients
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, critical care setting

Schedule:

  • MondayFriday, 06001700 (varied 8 to 12-hour shifts based on department need)
  • No weekends or call duty required
  • Overage Hours: Up to 60 annually

Physical Requirements:

  • Must stand for extended periods and assist with patient mobility and transfers
  • Ability to lift/move patients and wear PPE during recovery care

Immunization Requirement:

  • TB screening, physical exam, and complete immunization history required

Security Requirement:
Must pass background investigation and receive clearance for military base access
