Job Description
We are seeking a Quality Control Scientist - Microbiology to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in microbiological, bio-analytical, and raw material testing within cGMP environments and a proven ability to ensure compliant product release, support investigations, and maintain aseptic and environmental control.
Work Schedule & Environment:
- Onsite role, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility for overtime or weekends as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Perform sterility, endotoxin, microbial identification, and routine microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Conduct compendial assays including BacT, Endotoxin, and Mycoplasma testing, including growth promotion as release testing.
- Execute environmental monitoring of manufacturing and laboratory areas and support EMPQ, cleaning, disinfection, and aseptic control improvements.
- Trend EM and sterility data, author monitoring reports, and initiate risk-based resolution plans.
- Participate in and document investigations for deviations, OOS, and non-conformances; support CAPA and Change Control activities.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and R&D on testing strategies and release decisions.
- Support development and implementation of the site Microbial Control Strategy from incoming materials through final product release.
- Analyze and interpret results and document findings in compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure calibration, maintenance, and proper function of laboratory equipment; perform scheduled cleaning of refrigerators, incubators, and BSCs.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and microbiological techniques; support internal and external audits.
- Train and mentor staff and new hires in techniques, procedures, and growth promotion; maintain lab supplies and logbooks.
- Support raw material quality by creating specifications, performing ID tests, and executing assays and impurity analyses per protocols.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field; or 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- 4-7 years of experience in microbiology and/or bio-analytical laboratories in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industries.
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques and bio-analytical methods such as ddPCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, viability assays, and cell culture.
- Experience with method development and validation in regulated environments.
- Knowledge of FDA, EMA, and cGMP guidelines and application to QC operations.
- Ability to use laboratory instrumentation and data analysis software; apply statistical analysis for data interpretation.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and troubleshooting of microbiological and bio-analytical methods.
- Effective written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous improvement practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting environmental monitoring programs and microbial control strategies.
- Prior participation in audits, investigations, CAPA, and Change Control.
