Position Summary:

Grace Fellowship Church (GFC), a growing non-denominational church in Timonium MD, is looking for aPastor of Care to lead a proactive, scalable, and discipleship-aligned care ministry that supports our 3,000+ person congregation. We are in an exciting season of rapid growth and expanding regional influence. Our mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christand care is an essential part of how we do that.

The Pastor of Care fully embraces the vision, mission, and theology of GFC and will provide strategic leadership to the pastoral care ministry, ensuring every individual and family has access to spiritual, emotional, and practical support. This person will build teams, train lay leaders, offer direct care when needed, and create systems that make sure no one walks alone. The role requires the ability to offer biblical guidance to individuals while designing a care ministry that grows as the church grows.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Pray for, support, and be an extension of the vision and values of the lead pastor and GFC (please visit gfc.org).
  • Develop and implement a church-wide care strategy for a large and growing congregation
  • Train and equip volunteer lay care leaders and small group leaders
  • Provide pastoral counseling, crisis response, grief support, and spiritual guidance
  • Lead initiatives for premarital counseling, marriage enrichment, funerals, and hospital visitations
  • Build systems for care tracking, long-term follow-up, and coordination with outside counseling resources
  • Teach or coordinate workshops and classes on spiritual growth, marriage, parenting, and emotional wellness
  • Partner with local outreach organizations and mobilize church members for community service
  • Oversee ordination and licensing processes for aspiring ministers

Candidate Criteria

  • Growing, vibrant relationship with Christ and strong Christian character
  • Embraces GFCs mission, theology, and staff values
  • Must be an active and engaged member of GFC
  • Strong communicator and teacher; relationally engaging with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strategic thinker skilled in developing systems and equipping leaders.
  • Emotionally intelligent; handles sensitive issues with care and biblical wisdom.
  • Technologically proficient with tools for communication, presentation, and database management.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative across ministries.
  • Spiritual gifts in leadership, administration, and evangelism preferred.

Education/Experience

  • At least 5 years of pastoral ministry experience (preferably in a large, multi-staff church)
  • Seminary degree (M.Div. or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Proven experience in pastoral care, counseling, team development, and crisis response
  • Strong relational and communication skills, with high emotional intelligence
  • Ability to lead both from the platform and behind the scenes
  • Passion for spiritual formation and developing care pathways that align with discipleship
  • Experience in a large church or not-for-profit organization would be beneficial

Working Hours and Conditions:

Business Hours/Exceptions

  • Full-time (40+ hours/week), including Sundays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Required participation in GFCs three all hands annual events: Christmas, Easter, and Fall Launch.

Working Environment

  • Primarily on-site with limited remote flexibility.
  • Collaborative and Christ-centered team culture.

Travel Requirements and Expectations

  • Occasional overnight retreats, camps, mission trips, and conferences.
  • Local travel for student and family care expected.
