Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HVAC/Mechanical Superintendent to lead field operations for commercial and industrial mechanical projects. The Superintendent will oversee installation, commissioning, and coordination of HVAC, hydronic piping, and associated mechanical systems to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with general contractors, engineers, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site leadership and supervision for HVAC and mechanical trades, ensuring work meets design specifications and quality standards.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily field activities, subcontractors, and material deliveries to meet project milestones.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, schedules, and specifications and communicate requirements to the field team.
  • Oversee installation and testing of hydronic piping, pumps, boilers, chillers, air handling units, ductwork, and controls.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and company safety programs; conduct toolbox talks and site safety inspections.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks/delays, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and budget.
  • Conduct quality inspections and commissioning activities; address punch list items and ensure systems operate per design criteria.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, owners, engineers, and vendors to resolve technical and logistical issues.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and as-built records.
  • Provide mentorship, training and performance feedback to foremen and craft personnel; support workforce development and morale.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent or lead field supervisor on HVAC/mechanical construction projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic piping, refrigeration cycles, boilers, chillers, pumps, and controls.
  • Proven experience managing commercial or industrial mechanical installations from rough-in through commissioning.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of construction safety standards (OSHA) and proven commitment to enforcing safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience coordinating across trades, vendors, and project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and field documentation; experience with commissioning and testing procedures.
  • Trade certification, mechanical license, or relevant HVAC degree/certification preferred.
  • Valid drivers license; ability to travel to project sites and work extended hours as needed.
