Plant Microbiologist
Contract till December 2025
Onsite in Sanford, ME
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform microbiological testing of water and environmental monitoring samples.
- Manage samples, chain of custody, test requests, data review, and release for microbiological samples sent for testing.
- Assist with product and equipment validations.
- Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment and calibrations.
- Complete failure investigations and accurately document Out of Specification results.
- Review microbiology documentation.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related major.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a GMP laboratory environment (Personal Care, Pharmaceutical, Food, Environmental).
- Experience should include working in a manufacturing environment both in a lab and with exposure to plant floor micro control programs.
- Familiarity with and ability to execute GMP-compliant failure investigations, CAPA, deviations, and change documentation.
Competencies:
- Solid understanding and practical experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), including general microbiological laboratory practices, instrumentation (autoclaves, gram staining, water purification systems, etc.), failure investigations of nonconforming products, and general computer skills (Google Suite, MS Word, MS Excel, SPC, SAP, email).
- High energy level with a focus on results.
- Excellent communication skills—both speaking and writing—to keep team members informed, maintaining lab notebooks and testing documentation.
- Proven knowledge of microbiology, validations, cGMP, and instrumentation.
- Ability to work independently with initiative, set priorities, and manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
