Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports providers in a busy primary care clinic by performing a blend of clinical, administrative, and clerical duties to help deliver an excellent level of patient care. This role helps patients feel comfortable, clearly explains provider instructions, and ensures that each visit runs smoothly from check-in through follow-up. The Medical Assistant works closely 1:1 with a physician or other licensed provider and as part of a collaborative care team, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent role.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and notify the provider when the patient is ready to be seen.
  • Ensure all laboratory and diagnostic test results are available and filed in the chart prior to the patient’s appointment.
  • Maintain exam rooms by keeping them appropriately stocked, organized, and clean.
  • Conduct the initial intake with patients, including confirming the reason for visit and symptoms, and obtaining vital signs such as weight, height, blood pressure, and temperature.
  • Verify and update current medications, contact information, and medical allergies at each visit.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by helping them understand the process and ensuring they are ready for the provider.
  • Assist the provider during examinations and procedures as needed.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens in accordance with clinical protocols.
  • Instruct patients on prescribed medications, special diets, and other provider-directed care plans.
  • Prepare and administer medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider.
  • Administer nebulizer treatments and assist the provider with additional procedures and clinical tasks.
  • Transmit prescription refills as directed by the provider.
  • Monitor inventory and order medical, laboratory, and office supplies as needed.
  • Follow up on diagnostic results, medications, blood work, and other ordered tests, ensuring results are communicated and documented appropriately.
  • Perform basic wound care under provider direction.
  • Use computer applications and electronic medical records to document visits, update charts, and support clinic operations.
  • Update, organize, and file patient medical records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform reporting and documentation tasks and support other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Assist patients via phone, including providing information, relaying provider instructions, and supporting appointment-related needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as a Medical Assistant, with a target of 2 years of experience; candidates with less experience may be considered with a strong work ethic.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Medical Assistant certification, registration, or completion of a Medical Assistant diploma program preferred.
  • Experience with Athena electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred; training is available for candidates without prior Athena experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain CPR certification.
  • Hands-on medical assisting experience, including vital signs, patient intake, and basic clinical support.
  • Ability to use computer applications and electronic systems for documentation and patient records.
  • Strong communication skills to explain provider instructions and educate patients clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively 1:1 with a provider and as part of a team in a high-volume clinic environment.

Work Environment

This position is 100% onsite in a primary care clinic located in Palm Springs. The Medical Assistant works closely 1:1 with a physician or other licensed provider and collaborates with a supportive clinical team. The clinic is a high-volume environment, with each provider seeing approximately 12–16 patients per day, offering a fast-paced and engaging setting. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Palm Springs, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
