Production Supervisor

Position Overview
We are seeking a Production Supervisor to lead manufacturing operations in a dynamic job-shop environment. The role focuses on supervising daily production activities, ensuring product quality, maintaining safe and efficient workflows, and meeting delivery schedules. The ideal candidate will have experience with coating and thin-film processes, machine shop operations, and strong production scheduling and inspection practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily production activities, including staffing, scheduling, and work assignments to meet production targets and delivery deadlines.
  • Oversee coating and thin-film coating operations, ensuring process consistency, adherence to work instructions, and control of critical parameters.
  • Manage machine shop and job-shop workflows, prioritizing jobs, allocating resources, and minimizing downtime through proactive planning and coordination.
  • Implement and monitor production schedules, track progress, and adjust priorities to accommodate urgent orders or changes in demand.
  • Maintain quality and inspection standards by enforcing inspection checkpoints, reviewing nonconformances, and working with Quality and Engineering to implement corrective actions.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate production staff, promoting a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and cross-functional skill development.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Materials Science, Chemical, and Electrical Engineering teams to support process development, troubleshoot equipment, and implement improvements.
  • Lead equipment maintenance coordination with maintenance teams and vendors to ensure reliable operation and timely repairs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (lean manufacturing, process optimization, waste reduction) and support cost reduction efforts.
  • Prepare production reports, performance metrics, and shift handovers to communicate status and areas for attention to management.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a job-shop or production setting with coating/thin-film processes.
  • Hands-on experience with coating and thin-film coating technologies and processes; familiarity with surface preparation and handling requirements.
  • Strong background in machine shop operations, tooling, fixtures, and CNC or manual machine oversight.
  • Proven experience in production scheduling, workflow optimization, and resource allocation to meet delivery commitments.
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques, metrology equipment, and quality systems (e.g., ISO, AS9100) with experience guiding root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development skills, including training, performance management, and fostering a safety-first culture.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and maintenance to resolve equipment/process issues.
  • Proficiency with production reporting, basic data analysis, and manufacturing systems (ERP/MRP) is desirable.
  • Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
