Position: Senior Property Accountant
Compensation: $80,000 to $100,000 + Bonus & Benefits
Location: Chicago - Hybrid
Industry: Real Estate / Property Management / Commercial or Residential Assets / Development

We are partnering with a leading real estate organization seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join their accounting team. This position will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting of a portfolio of properties and will play a key role in monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, and budgeting support. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in real estate accounting, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheets, and general ledger accounts
  • Record journal entries including accruals, amortizations, and prepaids
  • Review and analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide explanations to management
  • Process CAM reconciliations and tenant billings as needed
  • Maintain rent rolls and ensure accuracy of lease data in accounting systems
  • Support annual budgeting and reforecasting processes
  • Assist with external audits and respond to auditor inquiries
  • Collaborate with property managers, asset managers, and other departments

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2+ years of property accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
  • Experience with real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large data sets
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • CPA or progress toward certification is a plus but not required
