Position Title: Sanitation Lead – 3rd Shift
Department: Sanitation
Reports To: Sanitation Supervisor / Sanitation Manager

Shift: 3rd Shift (Overnight)
Position Summary
The 3rd Shift Sanitation Lead is responsible for overseeing and actively participating in the cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and production areas within the facility. This role serves as a working lead, providing direction, guidance, and quality oversight to sanitation associates while ensuring the facility meets USDA, HACCP, and company sanitation standards. The Sanitation Lead plays a critical role in preparing the production floor for next-day operations and ensuring all sanitation activities are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and support 3rd shift sanitation team members to ensure all assigned sanitation tasks are completed thoroughly and on time.
- Perform and oversee cleaning and sanitizing of production equipment, processing tools, conveyors, floors, walls, and drains.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble equipment used in poultry and meat processing, ensuring proper sanitation and functionality.
- Verify proper use, handling, and dilution of approved cleaning chemicals and sanitizers in accordance with company guidelines and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Conduct and oversee pre-operational sanitation activities, ensuring all equipment and surfaces meet inspection and cleanliness standards.
- Monitor compliance with sanitation procedures, including lockout/tagout, chemical safety, and equipment safety protocols.
- Inspect completed sanitation work to ensure compliance with USDA, HACCP, and company standards prior to production start-up.
- Serve as the primary point of contact during the shift for sanitation-related questions, issues, or concerns.
- Identify and report maintenance, equipment, or safety issues to the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager promptly.
- Ensure sanitation logs, checklists, and required documentation are accurately completed and submitted.
- Assist with training and coaching sanitation associates on proper cleaning methods, safety practices, and compliance requirements.
- Promote a culture of food safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Assist with hands-on sanitation duties and perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in sanitation, food processing, or industrial cleaning required; lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of sanitation procedures, cleaning chemicals, and food safety regulations (USDA, HACCP).
- Ability to work overnight hours in cold, wet, and humid environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example, communicate effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety.
