Job Description
This contract-to-hire Human Resources Generalist role offers the opportunity to support a growing HR function with a strong focus on recruitment, HR operations, and administrative support. You will play a key role in hiring for manufacturing and other positions, assisting with an HRIS transition, and contributing to learning and development initiatives. This position is fully on-site and provides significant exposure to leadership, the automotive industry, and long-term growth opportunities within a collaborative, change-oriented HR team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support full-cycle recruitment efforts for manufacturing and other roles, including conducting intake calls with hiring stakeholders and managing candidate pipelines.
- Perform a wide range of HR administrative duties, including preparing reports, supporting compliance activities, and managing HR documents and records.
- Assist with the implementation and transition of HRIS systems, specifically moving from UKG to Paycom, including data integrity, process support, and user coordination.
- Support learning and development initiatives as the HR department grows, helping to coordinate training activities and contribute ideas for employee development.
- Serve as a floater within the HR function, which may include covering front desk responsibilities and greeting and assisting visitors when needed.
- Participate in employee relations activities and investigations as needed, ensuring professionalism, discretion, and appropriate documentation.
- Support onboarding processes to ensure a smooth and positive experience for new hires.
- Provide responsive HR support and customer service to employees and leaders, addressing questions and directing issues to the appropriate HR resources.
- Collaborate closely with HR team members and leadership to foster a positive, collaborative, and change-oriented environment.
- Adapt to shifting priorities and support multiple HR functions as business needs evolve, contributing to process improvements and more efficient HR operations.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3–5 years of human resources experience, preferably in a generalist role.
- Demonstrated experience in recruitment, ideally supporting manufacturing or similar operational environments.
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including comfort with handling difficult or sensitive conversations.
- Track record of working independently with a mature mindset and minimal need for micromanagement.
- Ability to function as a team player and collaborate effectively with HR colleagues and business partners.
- Willingness and ability to work fully on-site, with only occasional remote flexibility considered after conversion to full-time.
- Experience providing HR support and customer service to employees and leaders.
Work Environment
This role sits within the Human Resources department and primarily supports the Lansing site. You will work as part of a small, collaborative, and cross-functional HR team that values energy, openness to new ideas, and a fun, supportive culture. The position is fully on-site, providing regular interaction with employees, visitors, and leadership.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $40.87/hr.
