Job Duties:

Answers the phone for customer service inquiries regarding billing operations

Meets new customers in person at the designated area within City Hall to check their identification and establish new account information

Collects all payments for water, sewer and garbage made by cash, check, credit card and mail

Changes customer account information either in person or on the telephone

Signs up new customers and collects activation fees

Listens to and settles customer complaints and problems

Makes appointments for field service calls

Enters work orders in the computer

Posts readings and creates bills to be printed

Processes bank drafts on date to be drafted from customer accounts and sends to the Treasurer's Office

Creates late notices for active accounts and mails out with shut-off information

Creates non-pay list and orders for meter shop servicemen to shut off

Creates files for customers who would receive a check for overpayment on a final account

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic accounting and bookkeeping procedures

Knowledge of computer software applications, i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook

Must possess basic computer skills

Must possess excellent communication skills

Must be able to perform normal arithmetic functions (addition and subtraction)

Must be able to operate basic office equipment

Must be able to multi-task

Must be able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions

Must be able to handle a high degree of public contact by phone and in person

Must be able to exercise tact and good judgment in responding to inquiries and resolving complaints and problems

Must be able to handle confidential customer information

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

An applicant will be required to take, and pass with an acceptable score of at least 75%, appropriate aptitude tests as well as a keyboarding skills test, prior to being assigned the position
